Katie Ermilio has a knack for creating feminine occasion wear that feels modern and young. But she’s no one-trick pony. The Fashion Incubator member has continued to broaden her range with easy day-to-night separates that complement those charming party dresses worn by stylish A-listers like Michelle Williams. On Wednesday, we grabbed a one-on-one with the designer at her Fall 2015 presentation.

theFashionSpot: What was on your mind for Fall 2015?

Katie Ermilio: The primary color palette was really informed by images from vintage ski ads and those old Norwegian sweaters they used to wear.

tFS: Are you a skier?

KE: Yes! I haven’t been skiing long. I’m in the novice territory. The last place I loved skiing at was Bridger Bowl in Montana.

tFS: The wool lace is a new fabric for you this season.

KE: Yes, we built the collection around the wool lace and the sheer nylon lace. The wool lace was really easy to work with. We’re very involved in the process of creating the textiles, so they’re original to us. You get a feel for the fabrics during the development process, and you learn how to manipulate them in the best way.

tFS: What’s your favorite piece from the collection?

KE: I love the navy coat. It’s the one item I know I want to steal!
