One Minute With … Donna Karan at DKNY

The DKNY girl is chic, street-savvy and loves New York City. Her closet is filled with sophisticated separates, little black dresses, and cute blazers that have just the right amount of edge. Her color palette is inky, and she’s just fine with that. Until today, that is. DKNY’s Fall 2015 collection was a celebration of colors, bright, vivid colors, paired with the neutrals (blacks, greys, creams) that we expect from the line. The sweaters had sculptural necks, the sweatshirts and coats were oversized. But then came the perfectly tailored suits, the colorblocked dresses and the standout: the jewel encrusted everything.

Much like the city she inhabits, the DKNY girl changes her POV, going from sporty spring to a layered fall that played with menswear, quilting and more.

We spoke with Donna Karan after the show briefly about her bright hues and what inspired them.

theFashionSpot: What inspired you to use these gorgeous colors?

Donna Karan: Well I think it’s the colors of the city. The neon lights and how it’s dark at night but it has neons at the same time. What is that color inside of you? Who you are at the moment?

tFS: And the jewel encrusted pieces were an easy way to add color.

DK: Jewels encrusted was also day into evening so it’s a great way to say, “I’m just wearing my work coat but by the way it has some sequins day to night.”
