Back in December, 75-years-young American fashion house Coach and Instagram’s most-followed person, Selena Gomez, inked a $10 million deal. Gomez became a walking Coach endorsement; she and Creative Director Stuart Vevers promised Selenators a capsule collection of some kind. The announcement came by way of an Instagram post showing the singer holding a clutch and making a kissy-face. We predicted a bag was to come.
Turns out, we were right. Yesterday afternoon, Coach unveiled an 11-piece line of leather goods designed in collaboration with the pop star, the centerpiece of which is a top-handle bag with gold hardware dubbed the “Selena Grace.” Also included in the Coach x Selena Gomez capsule are a wristlet, a cardholder and some heart-shaped bag charms. The pieces come in three of the singer’s favorite shades: Selena Black Cherry (black with purple accents), Selena White (a neutral beige) and Selena Red (self-explanatory).
“It was really fun to create this collection with Selena and design pieces that are cool and feminine like her,” said Vevers in a press statement. “When we designed the Selena Grace, it was about exploring the qualities Selena wanted in a bag and creating something that felt personal to her.”
What makes each piece feel so personal? Well, each of the small leather goods is embossed with Gomez’s signature. In addition, the double-handled tote features several messages from the singer to her fans. A story patch sewn inside the bag reads, “To be you is to be strong.” The base of the Selena Grace bears the words “Love yourself first” — a reference to one of Gomez’s tats — in her handwriting.
“I’m very excited for everyone to finally see the design Stuart and I worked on together,” said Gomez. “I can’t wait to carry it—it’s totally versatile, perfect to wear day to night, and it goes with everything.”
Sadly, we must wait until September 1, when the Coach x Selena Gomez line hits stores, to get our hands on this perfect everyday carryall. Given the vastness of Gomez’s following, we highly recommend securing your purchase ahead of time via the online preorder, which opens August 14.
