Get Kerry Washington’s Starry Night Smoky Eye at Home

Who: Kerry Washington

Where: 66th Primetime Emmy Awards

Why we like it: Last week was a great one for celebrity beauty, but after a admiring all the striking lips, beachy waves and the crop heard round the globe (cough, Emma Stone), we still came back to this look on Kerry as our favorite. The dog days of summer are slowly creeping behind us and it’s time to start thinking about fall beauty, so we love this shimmery navy eye and nude lip.

How to get it at home: Start with a light base. It may be a fall-appropriate look, but that’s no reason to pile on the foundation. As a rule, you should never wear a full-coverage foundation with a dark eye as it can very easily slip into mask territory. We love to turn to an old favorite for looks like this, such as Clinique’s Even Better Makeup SPF 15 ($27), which works to even tone, but won’t mask your skin’s natural texture. Add some color back into your cheeks with a shimmery apricot-toned blush, such as NARS’ Blush in Unlawful ($30).

Get Kerry’s enviable brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Dipbrow Pomade ($18), which is a smudge-free and fuss-free formula perfect if you’re looking for a strong brow. Smoky eyes like this one are often built from layers of shadows, liners and even more blending. We try to simplify the process wherever possible, so try a product like Make Up For Ever’s Artist Shadow in D222 Night Blue Diamond ($21), which will give you the starry night effect without the extra effort. Add a slick of black liner, such as Too Faced’s Bulletproof 24 Hour Eyeliner ($22), for an even more intense look, then finish with your favorite mascara. Lastly, get Kerry’s simple glossed lip with Hourglass’ Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss in Fortune ($28).
