nOir founder and designer Leeora Catalan is one of my industry idols. She completely embodies her brand – smart, quirky, and approachable – and despite her huge celebrity following (think Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Madonna, and Sarah Jessica Parker) and growing business, she is completely hands on when it comes to every piece of nOir jewelry.
She has collaborated with everyone from Marc Jacobs, Moschino, and DKNY, to Disney, Bebe, and Sex and the City’s Patricia Field. She recently created a limited edition collection of Fantasia-inspired jewelry for Disney’s release of Fantasia & Fantasia 2000: 2-Movie Collection Special Edition on Blu-ray/DVD, which was a success. Now, the designer has teamed with DC Comics for a costume jewelry line for the comic book company’s 75th anniversary.
I may not be a Batman fan myself, but I’m a huge fan of New York City, so the stand-out piece for me is the Gotham City Ring. The Catwoman Larger Claw Earrings are also awesome, especially for the holiday party circuit most of us are working. Lastly, Catalan has re-worked a nOir classic, the oversized star ring, into a Wonder Woman Ring; she switched up the colors to reflect those associated with the superhero. There are dozens of whimsical and opulent pieces in the line, all of which incorporate gunmetal, silver, or gold plating, and are accented with Cubic Zirconia stones and custom enamel.
